The furniture is especially important for girls. In Malawian schools, you have to stand up to speak in class. In the past, teenage girls, dressed in ragged skirts and worried about their modesty, would sit silently on the floor throughout lessons. Now they stand up and make themselves heard as much as the boys.  <br />

Life has been transformed at Mchuchu primary school near the capital of Malawi, thanks to help from UNICEF, which is working with schools across the country.
