$Ignored, almost invisible, it is hard to know how many children are on the street. Official Thai government figures are a fraction of the the US State Department's estimate of 20,000. The truth is probably somewhere in between.<br /> <br /> The US State Department estimates that there are as many as 20,000 children living and working on the streets of Thailand's major cities (US Human Rights Report for Thailand 2006).<br /> <br /> The majority of these are foreign children who have migrated to Thailand with their families or been trafficked and forced to work as beggars or street vendors.<br /> <br /> As the gulf in income levels widens between Thailand and its neighbours, the problem of street children is set to get worse.$
