The situation in Myanmar (Burma) is a tragedy. Everywhere you travel along the Thai-Myanmar border, you will meet bright, hard-working people who earn nothing and have little hope of a better life. If they had been born elsewhere, they really would be teachers, doctors, accountants and university professors. They would have houses; they would be safe; they, like us, would expect their children to do better then them. But here, it seems unlikely that the next generation will be able to do anything other than follow their parents into exploitation and insecurity. <br />

Like migrant communities all over the world, the Burmese in Thailand are often reviled by their hosts. as lazy, dirty and dishonest. The truth, as always, is completely different.
