Only one in every 12 pregnant women attends an anti-natal clinic in the first part of their pregnancy. But with knowledge about safe deliveries and early child care so low, and with HIV, malaria and TB rates so high, it is critical for these women to get into medical facilities as soon as possible so that they can be given the care and advice they need. <br />

Malawi has one of the highest child mortality rates in the world. UNICEF is working with the government, NGOs and communities to stop these deaths by improving the health of mothers and children.
