Pregnant women in Malawi also face terrible odds and a real risk of death in child birth every time they get pregnant. There are many reasons for this. Too few women give birth at a hospital or with a trained health worker in attendance. And too few know how to look after themselves or have access to decent medical treatment.  <br />

Malawi has one of the highest child mortality rates in the world. UNICEF is working with the government, NGOs and communities to stop these deaths by improving the health of mothers and children.
