Angela, who now calls this yellow van home, has been living rough since she was five. After being sexually abused by her stepfather, her mother took her to hospital - but not for treatment: she took her there to abandon her. Angela grew up living in the hospital grounds before she joined a gang of trans-sexuals who introduced her to sex work and to heroin.<br />

Albania's HIV epidemic is concentrated among injecting drug users and other high-risk groups, but has the potential to spread into the rest of the population. The NGO Stop AIDS, supported by UNICEF, offers information and health services to heroin addicts in the capital Tirana to reduce their chances of becoming infected.
