The US State Department estimates that there are as many as 20,000 children living and working on the streets of Thailand's major cities (US Human Rights Report for Thailand 2006).<br />
<br />
The majority of these are foreign children who have migrated to Thailand with their families or been trafficked and forced to work as beggars or street vendors.<br />

As the gulf in income levels widens between Thailand and its neighbours, the problem of street children is set to get worse.
